emo is an offshoot of hardcore punk that originated in the 80s. it was started by bands such as rites of spring and fugazi. it reached its peak in the early 90s with such great bands as saetia, jeromes dream, i hate myself, orchid, indian summer, and hoover. since then the whole definetion has been altered by little teenage girls and little teenage boys wearing girls pants. the music most labeled as emo now is nothing more than watered down pop and pop punk with sappy, cliche, and predictable lyrics. everyone in the band looks the same... studded belt, girl pants, tight shirt, "emo" glasses, and converses.
there are still a few good emo bands around such as Kaospilot, Welcome the Plague Year, Hot Cross, and Off Minor. and i suggest everyone check at least one of these bands out.
