Maybe it was at the time they came out emo wasn't really a well known word. Back then I always thought of emo as falling forward, ashes, copper, etc...
I guess it doesn't really matter. I just never thought of them that way I guess.

Yeah, during the movement itself, most of the bands were just generalized as punk and whatnot
