xX topic Xx (members, show, classic, bands, emo)

I'm just wondering why some members in the forum have XxX (insert line) XxX names, and If so why do you do it? Is it some form of way to show you are emo just like people buy clothes at hot topic? I may be wrong, comments please.

xxx is normally associated with the term straightedge. though many people dont know this, that is why most bands, people, and other things come with the classic 3 x's. they are a symbol of being drug and alcohol free.

I thought xxx was associated with porn, or would that be XXX? XXXX is an Australian lager, which tastes foul.

very few people who put xxx before their name or three x's in their name have no idea what it stands for. It makes me mad to because they just think it looks cool and have no idea what the movement is about. I'm edge, but not the kind that beats up others if their not. But still please know what it means before you put it in your name. And XXX is also for pron obviously but in this sense its X-no drugs X-no booze X-no smokes. XXX straight edge.

now, correct me if im wrong, but straight edge began in the 80's primarily by gorilla biscuit and was not x-drugs x-alcohol x-smokes. it was drugs, alcohol, all things animal related-aka being a vegan, and no meaningless sex.

you are more correct. however, i dont think gorrila biscuit started it. its hard to say where the whole idea came from but its often been said that the idea was started by minor threat. bands like gorllia biscuit and XYouth of TodayX supported and spread the ideals of the straightedge life.

I am also straight edge....if you want to call me that...I mean straight edge is only what one percieves their own self to be. I dont drink, or smoke or drugs...im a vegetarian too, but I don't have to put x's on me to prove that. I'll just state myself rather than referring to myself as straight edge. However, if you do use the X its all good, thats you and I'm happy for ya.

I agree with you, what's the point of making a huge song and dance over the fact that you don't drink or smoke? Are people that self-important that they think anyone would care what they eat or drink?

i like the straight edge way of life. i'm not drinking alcohol, not taking drugs, i'm a vegetarian, but nevertheless...i wouldn't call me straight edge. i think straight edge is more than only this.
a friend on mine is straight edge. and a lerant a lot from him. thanks to him.
@ covle: i also think that the idea was started up by minor thread, not gorilla biscuit.

I don't interperut it to mean anything about being a vegitarian, just no smokes, booze, and drugs. But whateva, point is there is a meaning for it and not just away to put spaces in your screen name. And i don't know who started "straight-edge" probably just came out of the scene. I do know the Minor Threat started PMA another great and positive movement to come out of the hardcore/punk scene (PMA is Positive Mental Attitude and was created after alot of negative press about how hardcore kids back ion the 80's when the genre was starting out were suicidle and the music was just about killing yourself)
