I used to be bugged by the sound of the Woods but it kind of grew on me. I mean, it's over the top and makes me think of live gigs played on terrible sound systems, but cranked up as high as they can. It'd be nice to be able to hear the songs without that loudness for a change, but I can dig it as part of the album.

For me I think it'd be...

1. The Hot Rock
2. The Woods
3. Dig Me Out
4. All Hands on the Bad One

I don't know the rest of the albums well enough to include them. I actually forgot that I bought One Beat on vinyl recently so I should really be listening to that more. It sounded good from what I remember, though.

The Woods is the perfect example of a great album being crippled somewhat by excessively-loud mastering. And of course who produced it only Dave Fridmann who was also responsible for the equally loud Flaming Lips album At War With The Mystics.

It does lend a scuzzy feel to the music like it was recorded live, however listening to it through headphones can be a bit too much to bear at times. I think the best way to listen to it is through speakers with the volume cranked up a bit.

A new single out as well as a new album and tour in the new year! I seriously thought that I'd never hear from these girls again.

I like the new song but the video could have been better.

Huge fan - one of the great ROCK bands of the last 20 years. Forget that 'for a bunch of girls' shyte. All of their records are great but 'The Woods' is an amazing album. One of my all time favorites. I think the reason it is so loud is that it was intended to be cathartic and abrasive and in your face (and it sounds AMAZING on Vinyl!!!). If it had been a bunch of guys who had done it, I bet it would have been a lot more popular. I admit I am something of an aficionado of girl garage bands, and that's how I found S-K in the first place, but they've quickly transcended any gender-inspired labels or limitations for me. Corin's voice and the vocal interplay between Corin and Carey can take some getting used to, but once you're hooked, you are HOOKED. I hope, with these re-releases, they will gain a new generation of fans. Can't wait for the new album!

Plus it's 2014 and any prejudices about whether girls can rock as hard as boys needs to go in that same dumper as 'women aren't funny'. I say welcome to the party!

I wouldn't be too sure about this, in 2005 gender prejudices in alternative music wouldn't have been too significant compared to when they were starting out. I find that even discussing gender prejudices in music in 2014 is a pointless exercise, particularly in this context where Sleater-Kinney have already proved their musical worth regardless of gender.

It was The Woods which got me hooked though and when I moved on to Dig Me Out I was shortly grabbing the rest of their back catalogue. And yes, Carrie and Corin's interplay is what makes the band for me.

Yes, yes it does. But that link you posted is from 2005?

Love the new album, they have not missed a beat. One of the greatest bands ever.
