Default The 1975

I think this band is the best new indie band to come out in the last year or so.

Thoughts?

I would agree. Also I would go as far to say the 'album of the year'. And Chocolate 'song of the year'. My favourite songs:
1. Chocolate
2. Sex
3. Settle Down
4. You
5. The City
6. Pressure
7. Girls
8. Head.Cars.Bending
9. Robbers
10. Antichrist

'Girls' is the new single from The 1975 released November 11th. It's a great song - I reviewed it in the album review on this site. The Official Video was released a few days ago, and it's great. (Featuring the lovely ladies in my signature).

Check it out here:

The meaning of the video:

Quote:
"When we released our last video (Sex), people really reacted to the fact that it was in colour. There was a lot of conjecture and talk surrounding it - due to the fact that it was an unexpected stylistic change. It was brought to our attention that certain people thought we were 'conforming to a record companies wishes' along with other expected and unexpected clichés. Obviously this couldn't be further from the truth, we are lucky enough to be surrounded by a group of individuals whose mantra centers on facilitating our creative wishes, we found the whole idea of us being told what to do fascinating. The story of the band who suffer at the hands of a record label shortly after a delirious rise is a tale as old as time. So we kinda wanted to make a tongue in cheek video about it. Twinned with our love of 80's pop, its innocence, grandiosity and conceptual ideas in music videos - we wanted to make a video about a record label’s attempt at enforced conformity. We got our mate Adam down to a studio in Los Angeles at the start of our USA tour, got 4 models and made a video about us not wanting to make a video." - Matthew Healy - The 1975

I've heard the name a few times but I never really got around to checking them out. From what I see in the "Girls" video, I like the 1975. I'll have to do further digging.

Listen to 'Chocolate' and 'Sex'. They are their best songs.

At least based on the sound of the song in the vid above, they should have called themselves The 1985.

Haha. A lot of people think that. They are a lot more 80's than 70's. They aren't called the 1975 because of their sound being similar to then though, because it does not. There is some weird reason that I cba to explain to why they are called the 1975.

Didn't like this album much at all. It feels light bordering on cheap. Everything sounds like it was recorded on a $40 casio keyboard. The amount of 70/80s yacht rock vibes killed me. This is the first time I'm trying them out - this new album Being Funny in a Foreign Language - so maybe this is what they always sound like. But I hope not because in English, they suck.

All I need to hear was the one spot of redemption. It felt like it had some soul.

'Love it if we made it', is an impressive song by the 1975.
