sonic youth is basically one of the indie bands that everybody knows....check them out though, they are good

Pavement? Nada Surf? Ween (new album, Quebec, is good), Belle&Sebastian? Porcupine Tree(Progressive Indie?) The Fall? (Old Time) , The Pixies and The Flaming Lips? Ooooh, the Lemonheads! That's just to name a few, there are millions depending on your opinion of what you think Indie is i'd guess...i might inlcude bands like Portishead, Massive Attack, etc, but I guess they're a little too spacey.

Radiohead, the Bends is the best, new album is very good to, not forgetting OK Computer
