Hello Right Track,
Your correct about the first 2 albums being sorta V/good and ok respectivley. In the studio they would always struggle to keep the standards of the 1st two albums. I really love The Masterplan album of B/sides, in particular Rocking Chair, It's good to be free, and a brilliant version of I am the Walrus.
You said Cigarettes and alcohol as top tune, I agree. I also like Columbia & Up in the Sky.

I am the walrus was a great cover, as is Come On Feel The Noise.
Forgot about The Masterplan B/ sides (see now you got me remembering why I liked them In the first place) also like Roll with It.
Like you Dezzy I'm not as young as most on this forum, so my tastes go a bit further back, that and a love of all 60's stuff!
Kinks/Rolling Stones/The Who/Small Faces/Hendrix etc.
From the 70's; The Clash/Stranglers/Stiff Little Fingers/Talking Heads.
But my real passion is with Northern Soul. Not seen any threads in this forum yet, but some have an interest in more mainstream soul (motown).
I'm here to find anything new, anything interesting. Adidasss has a thread on Cesaria Evora worth looking at in 'International music'. Never heard of her before coming here,that alone has made it worthwhile already.
Do you have any unusual tastes in music, any reccomendations Dezzy?

hehe...he's 34 or 35 and dezzy is also 36-37...you're all grampas but very cool grandpas..... i hope it doesn't bother you too much that you're the eldest, when it comes to music age really is just a number and some of the young'ns have a really extensive knowledge of music and can be of great help.....( and btw keanu reevs is 40, and he's way cool...)

Right Track I dig the 60s stuff too. I say dig as I like the hippy woodstock stuff , Jefferson Airplane, Hendrix, and I think Love are far out Man!!
My dad recently off loaded his entire vinyl collection of Steppenwolf to me. Prior to listening to em I'd only heard The Pusher & Born to be wild. There are loads of real decent tunes spread across the albums. Two spring to mind Sookie Sookie & A girl I knew. There are others but I can't remember the titles.
From the 70s I loved the Punk of that time. Punk was the first time I was consious of fashion and broke away from my mams apron strings and went out and bought my own own punk gear. I think i'd just reached puberty.
I then got into the whole 2Tone scene
I'm not sure I have "any unusual tastes in music". I like Frank Zappa's Were only in it for the money album from 68. I picked up an album by this real mellow instrumentalist in America while there on holiday and subsequently found a couple more by him in an OXFAM on Oldham Rd. He's called John Klemmer. It's really nice relaxing soothing music that is sometimes what I enjoy.
You say your passion is Northern Soul. To be honest I know nothing about it.
I would say my passion is definately Reggae and hard Dub Music. I love the heavy Basslines and vibrations from the music.

You must recommend a good taster album in Northern Soul for me to buy.
I think on another post you mentioned Curtis Mayfield,
I've got this compilation album called Funk drops 2, CMs on that a top live tune called Memphis soul stew, its got like Billy Preston and other well known heads.

One of the most popular examples of northern soul is Dobie Gray's Drift Away i.e. "Give me the beat boys, free my soul, I wanna get lost in your rock n' roll and drift away".
