Default What instrument(s) should I learn to play?

I've never learned how to play any instruments, but I recently discovered this group called Two Steps From Hell who makes amazing music. My favorite song by them is Blackheart and I really want to make music similar to them(not quite sure what genre they fall under) so I can make custom music for film projects I may work on in the future(right now I just write but when I get up there I'd rather make everything like sound and such exactly the way I want it). The way I get inspiration for writing is through music and I think I'd be better off learning a few. I think one instrument I want to learn to play is the viola(I like the way it sounds deeper than a violin, especially at the beginning of the song listed above) but are there any others you would recommend based on the genre I'm looking at?

Bagpipes. They're the most badass of badass instruments.

Nothing like learning on a real instrument, and violin, or viola would be right along the lines of the tune you used as an example. However, I've come across a few people that have accomplished similar scores using EastWest virtual instruments. It can be a bit pricey though.
