Default Brian Setzer

Wow, I'm suprised that there isn't a thread for this guy. Anyways he is a great guitarist and is making me want to listen to more swing, and big band type music.

Wikipedia "biography" for him.

Suggested songs:
Stray Cat Strut
Route 66
Jump Jive 'n' Wail
Johnny B. Good

I don't get why you'd be suprised. The orchestra wasn't that good, and Stray Cats were rockabilly and no matter what he was doing it was less than successful.

Are you kidding me? The orchestra is amazing! Lets see you get together a few people and play some music as great as that.

I'll have to agree with you moses, swing music is quite unappreciated currently. But if you are really getting into it i would reccommend Big Bad Voodoo Daddy or The Atomic Fireballs.

I hate to come off as an old-school jazz elitist, but when it comes to big band, there's Duke Ellington, then Count Basie, and then, a few miles behind, everyone else. They are the cream of the crop, and unless you really can't stand listening to recordings from the 30's and 40's (they both continued on into the 70's, and Duke had been recording since the 20's, but these decades were their heyday), they are who you should start with.

I've done so for the past 4 years... even a high school jazz band can sound that good or better. Go to a state festival sometime.

He's got some good stuff, but I prefer Big Bad Voodoo Daddy.

It does sound like a high school jazz band with vocals on top. I don't suppose that's a horrible thing though. I don't think the intentions were to be extremely technical or write complicated music. He just wanted to write something fun and he did. He's extremely catchy.
