Thats the blueprint. To dismiss every other blues artist is pure folly. Blues has diversified and enriched so much modern music that to deny some of the greats is short sighted. BB King, John Lee Hooker, Byther Smith, Freddie King, Ray Charles are just some examples of stupendously great blues music that stands up on it's own.

sorry to bring up an old topic, but I must say that I disagree. I don't think Robert Johnson is the best blues guitarist. However, he is one of the most important guitarists in history. I've heard some amazing stuff and a good majority goes back to him. He influenced almost every respectable guitarist today.

Colin James' Bad Habits is one of the best Blues albums ever recorded and it only seems to be known by people up here in Canadia. Pick it up if you get the chance.

I've always been a fan of John Lee Hooker.

i hate how underrated blues is today.

when it comes to pure guitar ability, i'd say Buddy Guy and Duane Allman are the two best guitarists.

Duane Allman is arguable about standard guitar, altho he was ridiculously good, but when it comes to slide the only person who comes close to him is Derek Trucks. Derek Trucks is really really good, but i think he needs a couple more years till he surpasses the master.

Buddy Guy is just awesome.

hence the reason derek plays with the allmans,.....and his dad, butch is the drumer,....

i'd also add warren haynes to the mix

I'm surprised nobody's said Ali Farka Touré yet. Amazing guitarist. He's kind of hard to ignore, although when a lot of people think blues I know they probably don't take Mali into account.
