Totally! Telling a jazz virgin to listen to Free Jazz is like pushing them into the deep end, whereas with Sextant you mightas well take away their oxygen tank, shove them into a tank full of strange fish and bid them good luck

Telling a jazz virgin to listen to Free Jazz is like shoving them into an unfamiliar walk-in closet to be bukkake'd by seventeen Asians in bad Halloween costumes. Lil' overwhelming. Probably best to just screw one person first, after a bit of foreplay. And by that I mean listen to fusion and saaail into some late '50s/early '60s Miles Davis.

'sides, they'd still die in the deep end if they don't know how to swim.

INTRO TO JAZZ - Thelonious Monk - 'Straight, No Chaser'

or similar cool jazz classics. It's ridiculously accessible without being boring. I got into jazz reading the sleevenotes and listening to it on headphones, picking out the different instruments and when they had solos

''Rumour has it that the remix of "Sing For Me" is on the verge of being signed and if that turns out to be true, it'll be a well-deserved milestone in Ghetto's career. He's apparently now officially known as "Ghetts" - I guess the major labels really ain't feeling the ghetto - it seems that "Ghetto" ain't cool but large up "The Killers" right? Major label racism and the ****eries of modern day "liberal" society are doing alot.''

Man, no disrespect to you or any of the talented artists listed, but most of that is brderline smooth jazz which is usually what turns up the noses of non jazz fans in the first place.

Hello, my first post here,

Knowing what I know about the different styles of jazz today..If I was just getting into it I would go straight to the 60's hard bop, specifically Art Blakey & Jazz Messengers A night in Tunisia. That will give you an idea of the kind of energy and brute force of some real high octane jazz.

It's like the jazz version of a coffee enema
