Default Soft Machine

Has anyone heard them? 70's psych/jazz/fusion/etc. stuff that featured Allan Holdsworth for a short period of time. I think they're one of my favorite bands, especially the earlier material that was less structured and more trippy.

Anyone else?

Yep, Soft Machine are one of my favourite music acts of all time. I too love the early era, but I think they were at their best when Wyatt was still with them and they were starting to employ a bit more structure (Third and Fourth). I'm prone to going into a "jazz trance" when I listen to them.

I have tried so hard to get into them but their free form style just freaks me out. Talented guys but I just can't do it.

No I just don't dig it. Neither do I like The Mighty Boosh so that's definitely put me off!

Have you heard any of Robert Wyatt's solo stuff? Rock Bottom is an excellent album.

Yeah Rock Bottom is wicked genius but I reckon that Kevin Ayer's solo albums, particularly Bananamour, may prove more accessible to someone who gets freaked out by free form. Check it out, jack.

Soft machine is genious! I started listening to them just recently. Third is my favorite album of all time. I also own 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, Noisette, and Bundles.
I also think that Teeth and Slightly all the time are two of the best songs ever written. amazing.Man, whenever I listen to Third or fourth, I just space out lol...
