Default Jan Johansson (Swedish Jazz)

I searched for a thread about this former amazing jazz piano player but sadly i couldn't find one, hence its time that he gets on.

Jan Johansson was an (in my opinion) great musician who was active during the 60's until he sadly died in a car crash while driving to a gig. He was indeed very uniqe in the way that he combined old folk melodies (mainly swedish but also russian for example) with jazz.

Here are my two favorites from his brilliant but short career.

"Visa från Utanmyra" (song from Utanmyra) A great rather melancholy peice where he takes an old traditional swedish melody and makes it even more beautiful.

"Kvällar i Moskvas förstäder" (evenings in the suburbs of moscow) From what i understand the melody is an old on russian folk song, very beautiful aswell.

I hope that many of you will listen so that we can enjoy a nice discussion about this somewhat generally unknown musician.

I don't have much to contribute except to say that I have an album by him and I like it.
