Um, I've only heard watermelon man, and he's usually classified as Jazz, but I never thought of him as such. Maybe because I've only heard one song and whichever song was the first rap song to win an award for MTV.

Yeah, the crossover stuff he's done (Watermelon Man, Chameleon, rockit etc.) is just the tip of the iceberg that is his musical career. He is most definitely a jazz legend.

he is a genius, takin off is one of my favourite jazz albums. when he went fusion he did some great stuff as well

I like him, a very bold musician, his music has progressed greatly over the past 30 or so years.

I adore Herbie's style. He combines traditional jazz with groovy stuff so well that it just makes you smile. One of my favourite live shows is the one where he was grouped with Jack deJohnette, Dave Holland and Pat Metheny. Truly remarkable show.
