I wasn`t advocating a political thread , I was saying the lounge needs to be dealt with because it`s a mess.You seem to agree with that , you just disagree with how it should be done.

I just think splitting it up would help encourage better debate in there. You seem to think in extremes.You seem to think that doing something about it would destroy the whole forum , it won`t. It works , i`ve seen it.

At the end of the day you post in the areas you want.If people want to get to know other members that doesn`t include talking about music who are you to say they cant?

I agree with you , I want the lounge as it is gone , only I want it replaced with something more cohesive & better thought out & easier to use.

I post in the music forums , but I don`t want to do it all the time. But i`d like to discuss other things with some of the people I know here. At the moment it`s difficult to do so in the lounge due to all the spamming in there. Like I said , a couple of sub forums on specific topics would improve the off topic posting here. I would say what you think about the lounge would have more credibilty if you didn`t post in there , but you do, So you are just the same as everybody else.You don`t JUST come here to talk about music at all.

Basically totally reinvent the lounge? and add these forums and just clean it up?

ill drink to that. if the louge were divided up into sub-forums dealing with different subjects....it would be a lot better. but as (i believe it was either alejo or hookers) said on the first page......"good luck getting an admin to do that."

the lounge is crap as it is, i agree. but many posts in the "sub-forums" would be flamed because they "dont belong in this forum" (such as many posts in the emo/hardcore forum.) and also i think if that happened, it would promote more off topic chat.....and the already choking music forums would just wither out and die.

good plans always have flaws.

No I don't JUST come here to talk about music. But I think splitting the lounge up even more would just attract more and more people who come ONLY to talk about those topics, and not about music, the kind of posters we already have far too many of. I see what you're saying, and I do think you make a valid point, I'm just not as sure that it would work. We're both in agreement that the lounge is a joke, and that people coming here and posting only in the lounge is a problem that needs to be dealt with. Maybe we could try both ways since it doesnt seem as if this is going to be resolved. Try seperating the lounge into subforums for a while. Then if it's still the same situation where we have huge numbers of members who never post in the music forums, just try eliminating the lounge completely.

Well look at it like this , I also post in the Doctor Who forums at Outpost Gallifrey , they have something like 16 off topic forums , yet at that forum there`s hardly any off topic posting , hardly any flaming , and the threads that are on the main forums are always full of good debated threads and posted in on a regular basis .The off topic forums do nothing to hurt that ,they just add to a sense of community and make people want to post there. it`s also the same in other forums i`ve been to on football , F1 & other interests i`ve had.

I think the lounge cheapens this place , I don`t see how having properly modded sub forums on other things would do anything to hurt it.

in that case, ill say that i see where that might promote a cleaner "off topic" area, and where it may possibly promote more posting in the music forums. and although i also see it the other way....i wouldnt mind seeing a trial of something of that format.

Okay here we go. Someone MESSAGE me with a reason on why making a "politics" subforum would be any different then people making political posts in the lounge and i'll consider bringing up the idea with Greg. I'll post peoples messages in this thread so people can respond to others ideas and agree/disagree. But this thread has gotten ridiculous.
