Well, unless you WANT children, it's generally a good Idea... and it should probably be the person who wants the sex who uses the contraception. So pretty much always condoms then
 . I've been told that being on the pill for extensive periods of time can be very bad for you. This true?

Nope, scarestory. Use microgynon 30, it's been around forever. And it has shown nothing in either mothers or children. It's cheap (around 15 dollars for 3 months), and it doesn't have a lot of side effects. And you just know most guys don't always carry around condoms.
