Girls don't like it when guys make a fuss of them, the guy loses what little macho credibility (I say little becuase macho isn't really my scene) they have. However, if they disown you for a couple of hours you find yourself hanging off every word and thinking they look more like <generic hot guy's name> by the minute.

This is particularly annoying, even for the girls. But it can't be helped and unless the guy's amazing it's hard to find a good medium. Inevitably hate is projected either way, you're a loser or you're an insensitive prick for not returning calls, a good-looking prick, mind you.
