the rules are not grey at all.

No advertising is allowed unless prior permission has been given, usually only to long term members who have contributed to the forum.

It doesn't matter if you are advertising your own music or someone else's, it's still against the rules.

i think there's a clear difference between someone who's just joined the forum because they want to spam their own stuff or are spamming on behalf of a record company and someone who is a contributing member wanting to talk about a new band they like.
