I thought originally this was going to be fun, but now I've come to the conclusion that it'll just be a tedious job pointing out exactly how ignorant and misinformed you are. *deep breath* and here we go. Yes America gives a great deal of money in aid to other countries, but lets take a step back and look at the whole picture. For one, the US is one of the biggest arms dealers in the world (along with britain, france, russia and china), so while you're supplying food and relief to countries at war and facing genocide, you're also supplying the warring factions with the means to continue the brutal slaughter. This is intself does not make the US any worse than the other countries mentioned, but it's not helping your case either. Now, lets look at the wars started and the deaths caused by the united state's foreign policy. we'll ignore the many wars that were supplied with arms mainly by the united states (iraq/iran, soviet union/afghanistan, balkan wars) and focus on wars in recent history started by the US. First the vietnam war. A rough estimate of 1.5 million vietnamese were killed, and over three million wounded. generations after the war, people were still dying of complications and deformities brought from the effects of agent orange. mines littered the country, killing thousands more long after the war was over. slide over to cambodia. in '68 nixon started carpet bombing the eastern part of the country, "targeting" vc troops and khmer rouge. however, he didnt think it neccesary to release this information, and anywhere from 150,000 to 500,000 cambodians were killed in the bombings. many people argue that this helped greatly in the kr's rise to power, as they used the us bombings as a recruiting tool. up to laos. you probably didnt know that laos was/is the most heavily bombed nation on earth, ever. more bombs have falled on laos in its existence than have falled on any other nation in the world over the history of modern civilization. we have the US to thank for that, once again. nixon and lbj both bombed the **** out of the country "targetting" vc troops. as if that werent enough, if a bomber was flying back to the base in thailand after finishing a mission in vietnam, most of the time, any bombs that remained on board would be casually dropped over laos rather than go through the tedious and dangerous process of landing the plane with bombs on board. nice policy huh? as well, most of the cluster bombs still remaining in laos were supplied by the US, who has done VERY little to help with the clearing opperations. just so you know, a clearing team wont even bother with a village unless more than 100 uxo's (thats unexploded ordinances) are found in the area. now doesnt all that just leave you with a nice warm fuzzy feeling? now on to iraq. please save your arguments for why the US HAD to go in to conquer a terrorist faction (that has been proved to have never been in the country untill AFTER the US invaded), to thwart sadam's efforts to build nuclear weapons (that have been proven never to have existed, and the programs to build them disasembles years before the US invaded). I'm only concerned with facts, not mindless propoganda. Since the war it's estimated that somewhere between 83,000 and 91,000 iraqi civilians have died. all in a war that was justified by absolutely nothing else than the desire for the control of oil and to set up a puppet government in a hostile area of the world. I could debate more on the subject, and go WAY more into detail, but I wont for now, because I am certain I know far more on this subject than you do, and unless someone with an intelligent point chimes in, I see no point in discussing the matter further. now look at canada's record. we have our shady areas in the past, the treatment of japanese citizens durring the war comes to mind. although they werent slaughtered, and that really pales in comparison to the US record mentioned above. another interesting fact, while the US ranks at the top of the list in terms of foreign aid given in absolute terms, it ranks squarely at the bottom of the list of developed countries in terms of aid given as a percentage of GDP. not looking quite as good is it? finally on to your last statement? while the unemployment rate is still relatively low, the fact remains that the US economy is steadily going down the sh*tter. and estimation of the US's debt is $9,370,513,865,298. well over 9 trillion dollars. not such a great economy. while unemployment is still quite low, it's been on the rise for years and most seem to think it's a trend that wont be slowing down any time soon. so before you go on about the strength of the economy, look at the facts. that about sums up everything that im willing to write in one post, but by no means is that all. to end it, your weed sucks, your beer tastes like piss water, canada owns the US at hockey, and you're still fatter than us.
