Have meat levels in diets been discussed yet? Throughout most of history the average human has had a mostly carbohydrate-based diet with only very small amounts of meat that weren't taken daily. It's only in recent years that meat consumption has shot up, and not only is it making people fatter, but it's damaging the planet and making energy gains far less efficient. I'm not saying eating meat is bad, but there's certainly too much being eaten.

I've heard of fainting goats. Seen them do it too. Dunno how they slipped by Darwin.

Peacocks who've had their plumage plucked will become depressed and starve themselves to death. While we're talking about animal suicide.

If it's very well known, I should know about it, really. And I've never heard of goats who feign death when depressed.

They're not fainting, their muscles stiffen when they get scared and they fall over, unable to move. I'm not entirely sure what the physiology behind it is, but it's "slipped by" Darwin because it's a mutation which has been selected for by people, like floppy ears or a twirly tail on dogs. In other words, it's not an adaptation or a trait that would survive in nature.
