yo just thnkn bout black guys say the word "nigger" and get angry if white guys use it. but y? back wen black guys were outcasted and hated, white guys used the word "nigger" as an insult, so white guys own the word, not black guys.

I call my black friend nigger every so often and it doesn't bother him, but no, I wouldn't go up to anyone in the street and say it. It was originally an insult and as a result a lot of people still value it as an insult. By black people using the word nigger, it's a display of their disdain for the term and their freedom from its connotations.

A girl friend of mine calls all her mates bitch as well. Which is groovy.

well, I don't fully agree with the word but I do know that it was Negro, then Nigra, then Nigger, which was changed due to slang in the southern accent....
I think it is ok for it to be taboo for us to say nigger to a black person, and if they wanna use it fine...we gave it to them and they hate it so much, it is up to them to end it...and why do you care so much? Can yoou not speak to a black person without feeling left out not being able to title them?And why do we "own the word"? I think we did enough owning and that we should back off and just let things go now...
I am from Canada so I got no beef...I just hate when black ppl go around here in Canada, calling us oppressors and haters, when we had nothing to do with slavery, if anything we were helping ebolish it. They have see Roots and are all fired up without merit. But other than that, I have never had a racial problem before....

I've always dispised that word, I don't care who uses it. It's disrespectful, and speaking of which, it's F U C K I N G rediculous that in the year 2005 RACISM still exists. I'm not just talking about discrimination against African Americans, but all forms of racism. F U C K THAT S H I T....

Nah, I've never encountered it either. My area is a mix of pretty much every ethnicity under the sun, apart from possibly inuit, i've not seen any of those near me, but there's a lot of ethnic diversity here, and as a result I think that my school was totally unaffected by race issues amongst the pupils.

What with the current state of the world and the religious tensions going on at the moment I don't see the same sort of harmony remaining for much longer.

Okay, there's a difference between a white person saying "nigger" and a black person saying "nigga". I say nigga all the f*cking time, and black people know that i'm just f*cking around, not using it in a racist context. If they get offended, then f*ck em. That's just stupid. Depending on context, it's just slang. In other contexts, it's a racial slur. DUH! Do you guys even talk to black people?

I talk to black people...and to call them niggers or "niggas" is still wrong seeing as it is racism. I mean if you call your friends a nigger, strictly on a joke basis or whatever thats fair do's, as long as they're ok with it. to do it to just anyone is completely worng especially if you do not know them...I find it silly cause black people don't call us stupid names (or me anyway) it's stupid to discriminate people because of they're skin tone! a black friends should be the same (or a random black person and a random white person for that matter) to you!!!! I see it as in life there are people who are nice...and I like them and there are people that are not nice (for lack of a better word) and I don't like them! nothing else

I understand completely that black people are racist towards white people, but we have to bear in mind that we used to keep black people as slaves (what goes around comes around) I'd only call my mates niggas if they're happy with it. There's not alot of white racism around here but I'm sure alls different in America I actually don't know a whole lot of black people. I know that racism comes into rap music and such alot...like "white boys can't rap" and other music also someone said to me "He doesn't sound black" about the lead singer of bloc party which was a little racist...

you do realize that black people dont use "nigga" in a racial context, neither do I. You're thinking of "nigger", which is what bigot f*cks use as a racial slur. To me, "yo nigga" is the hip hop equivalent of "yo dude" or "hey man". There's no racial context to it, unless YOU make it out that way.
Oh and btw, black people do have a "stupid" name for white people, it's called honky, or cracker, or frosted mini-wheat, or knapkin.
