When it comes to psychological and neurological illnesses, I fear schizophrenia, dementia, and Parkinson's disease more than anything.

While all of those things are treatable with the right medication and medical intervention, they take away your ability to function on several different platforms and essentially devour your brain.

Schizophrenia is manageable, but it's so terrifying that I wouldn't even wish it on someone I completely hate. One of the scariest parts is that the illness can develop at practically any age, and the onset is sometimes so gradual that you might not even notice anything's wrong at all.

@Exo

Does the meds he takes really work to calm him down? cause if so maybe someone in your family can make him realise he's ill and he needs to take them.

I know that's easier said than done but maybe if you can get him to recognise he suffers from a condition he'll take the meds.

I'll die with this as my biggest regret. In hindsight it was so obvious. But in the moments, you're just trying to get along.

**** me again.

Schizophrenia is genetic. My family has zero history with that so I doubt he's suffering from Schizophrenia. This is either manic bi-polar disorder or manic personality disorder. He'll calm down eventually. He always does. It's just that we're going on vacation in a week, a vacation that is DIRE. We haven't been on one since this whole saga with him started about five years ago. We rented a house. It was supposed to be our getaway as a family. This episode of his is jeopardizing it.

He's supposed to take depacote. It's given to people with bouts of mania. It works by cutting off the endorphin release that he's on that allows him to not sleep for days and constantly be doing something. It makes him lethargic. I personally hate the drug but it really works in these cases. I just want him to take it until this episode is over.

Last night he called the police on my dad at five in the morning because my dad "yelled" at him. I just talked to him for about two minutes an hour ago. He said he's fine and that everybody is freaking out. I mentioned the cops last night and he said that they "had" to be called because he was afraid my dad was going to kill him. My dad is a teddy bear.

This is a nightmare right now and I'm not even living with them.

Went to the bar tonight. I think I got a job barbacking 2-3 nights a week. I go in on Tuesday for preliminary training. This has been an interesting week.

My life is weird.

I took depakote a long time ago; it affected me so badly that I could hardly walk. My feet felt like they were glued to the ground, and my legs felt like lead. Awful stuff.
