I was having a half decent day until I discovered that Last FM took it upon themselves to place Ocean Colour Scene in my recommendations.

I'm sorry but since when has my chart ever looked like it needed any shitty dadrock in it

I was given a bit of The Kooks yesterday on my recommendations radio. I must be going wrong somewhere.

Attempt No.2 resulted in all my System Restore points being wiped clean. Which led to attempt No.3.

Attempt No.3; manually delete all previous Microsoft updates since the very first update (which was fucking months ago) and then repeat Attempt No.2...run SP1 install...you've guessed it...FAIL!!!

Not one to be defeated, "right then, whats next?" I said to the confused technician.

"Buy an external hard drive, back up all your files and re-install Windows Vista." He replied.

"You've got to be fuckin' jesting pal!?" I retorted.

Today I bought a 500GB external hard drive.

Damn annoying is an understatement.
Every failed install has a turn around time of 3 hours.
1 hour to attempt the install, followed by a message informing you it failed and will attempt again on automatic reboot...another half hour for reconfiguration, followed by another hour to reinstall, followed by another half hour to reconfigure after failing again.

I swear to God, if I seen Bill Gates in the street, I'd stab him in the head with a bleedin' ice pick.

You have a new PC if I remember? Therefore XP is not an option with it?

XP is an option if I delete Vista as the OS and install XP.

But why would I want to do that when I'd only have to install Vista eventually anyway.
There's three things you can't avoid in this life. Death, taxes...and a new Windows OS.

It would be a fooker to change the OS but many people use XP with a lot less problems than what you are having. Eventually you would have to install Vista (as will most of us) but maybe the myriad problems would be solved? Stepping back to XP would be a pain but maybe more preferable in the short term?

If anyone reading this is having the same problem trying to install Vista Service Pack 1 and you know it isn't because of your applications, disable automatic updates, then delete all your Microsoft updates and try again.
I couldn't delete 4 updates and I think that was because they were badly installed in the first place, which caused SP1 to fail at install.
On reboot download SP1 and install it BEFORE updating Windows.
