Green Day - Know Your Enemy - Lyrics Meaning

Green Day is an American band that performs the 'punk' rock music and is originally from California. Since the late '80s, the band has been producing record hits and great albums. The band has four artists: Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, Try Cool and Jason White.

'Know Your Enemy' is a popular song that's been featured on TV. And was a theme for WWE Smackdown. The song is about what the title implies, 'knowing your enemy'. The lyrics are pretty simple too, here's a few lines: "Do you know the enemy? Do you know your enemy? Well, gotta know the enemy, wah hey. Violence is an energy. Against the enemy. Well, violence is an energy, wah hey." The music demonstrates violence, but the form isn't in a rage.

According to the band, the song is about going against what is on TV. Not just everything on television; corporate bullspit and media hype. The band itself is against the norm and that's the basis of much of their music. And the way they fight the establishment is to sing about what they're all about. Billie Joe Armstrong wants to make that clear to everyone that the real enemy is the lies/crap that's on TV.
