You've Lost that Loving Feelin - Righteous Brothers - Lyrics Meaning

In 1965 the righteous brothers released this monster hit with the help of, the now acclaimed, Phil Spector. At the time Beatlemania was in full swing and English music was dominating the charts in general.

A full sounding song with familiar themes was exactly the remedy. Dealing with the well worn theme of love lost the lyrics encapsulated the mood concisely when coupled with the rich sound.

The entry sets the tone with:

`You never close your eyes anymore when I kiss your lips.

And there's no tenderness like before in your fingertips.'

As the song crescendos though with the help of Specters' `wall of sound' the tone of hope is reflected in the redeeming lyrics. At this point the lyrics veer off from the familiar bitter break up song (or more prevalent love songs of the time) and show the true motives of the song are not love lost but reconciliation.

`And now you're starting to criticize little things I do.

It makes me just feel like crying,'

Recognized as the most played song on radio ever, the lyrics clearly have transcended the boundaries of age and demographic to prove themselves timeless.
