The Matrix II and III single-handedly wrecked this decade.

even though I'm still not crazy about the third, I'm going with the Godfather, the first 2 are just perfect

I'd say the Godfather just because the acting is so good, but Beverly Hills Cop is close behind. Eddie Murphy back in the 70's and 80's was one of the greatest comic minds of all time. The first installment was the first R-rated movie I ever saw, I think I was 5 (probably why I'm so messed up), but I must have watched it dozens and dozens of times on video. He's so great in the first and the second one. The third one is nowhere near the first 2, but still not a bad movie.
Bourne Series deserved good consideration.
Think the new Star Wars trilogy somewhat discredits the earlier one
He He - Final Destination, good one. I almost thought you were serious for a moment.

I think The Matrix is the best trilogy up there because the themes in that trilogy are much more complex then in the others, at least I feel.

the matrix really only rehashes what have become pretty common sci-fi themes, the nature of reality and the dangers of technology etc., but as far as complex situational drama and moral dilemmas go the vengeance trilogy has it easily beat.

I am more talking about the references to all sorts of different religions and philosophies. When I watch that movie, the amount of references to Buddhism is amazing along with Islam, Christianity, Agnosticism.

Virtual realities , Buddhism and all the rest of it. It was even called The Matrix.

All done by Doctor Who in the 70s
