Hm, it's okay - I enjoyed it more than Secret of Mana which is similar, but it's not as good as FFVI of course. Well, in my opinion.

Dave's right about FF being a bit tedious, though. You do get tired of the countless random fights, but the story is much more compelling.

A lot of the SNES RPGs are quite overrated though, I think - particularly the Breath of Fire games. I can't understand why they're as popular as they are. For example in the first, you pick up new characters to your party basically without question or introduction or anything. Isn't RPGs supposed to be part about story?

Zelda - A Link to the Past f.ex which you've already played is much, much more entertaining than Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana and the Super Nintendo's FFs. Well, in my opinion.

Can't you use that criticism against just about any RPG with turn based combat?

It's an RPG tradition that people either love or hate. I don't mind it, I love the strategy of learning what attacks are effective against certain enemies, and leveling up and learning new powers actually feels pretty damn rewarding. I like the RPGS more for the story and exploration though.

I haven't played Breath of Fire but I've never seen it get THAT much praise, it has it's fans but it's nowhere near as popular as a lot of other Super Nintendo RPGs.

Yeah, Zelda takes the the best elements of RPGs (exploration, leveling up, NPCs) while leaving out the more fustrating elements (turn based combat, grinding, etc). That has been the secret to it's success.

I'm honestly more of a fan of action RPGs and games with RPG elements than straight up RPGs. There are some amazing traditional RPGs though, Golden Sun, Earthbound and Phantasy Star IV being among my favorites.

Nah. Uncharted 2 will get game of the year. It'll either be that or Modern Warfare 2 but seeing as that isn't out yet I'm going to say my choice for the title is Uncharted 2.
