Today I bought DeathSpank and DeathSpank: Thongs of Virtue.
I started the first, and am loving it so far. Trying to get to the second one before Tuesday.

Because then it's all about some Dead Space 2.

I'm sure the numbers are up but I still don't think it's 60-40 like you're saying.
I just did a little brief research and here are some numbers of a survey taken

Educational Games Research » ESA Survey: Male/Female Gamer Ratio is 60/40; Average Age is 35

I know there are also a lot of males that like to play female avatars. Myself being one but I'm sure that females do the same and choose male avatars. Females would probably be hard to poll and find out how much are really gamers though because they are ashamed of it and lie to their friends and family about how much time they really spend gaming if they even tell them at all that they game. They are closet gamers more than anything.

Yeah if you include stuff like Animal Crossing and Wii Sports, then sure the demographic is 60-40.

Get on Xbox live on the other hand and you're looking at maybe a 95-5.

I actually see a lot of female gamers on Xbox Live. Not as many as there are dudes, but still, there's plenty out there.

The ones who I do see actually often times seem to exclaim it in their bio "I'M A GIRL", seems to me a lot of them relish the attention they get. Not all of course, but it seems about 50-50.

I did a little demography study on my own yesterday in WoW out of curiosity and interviewed a female veteran player on what she thought of genders and players. She wrote that she had stopped playing male avatar characters because she felt she got treated worse as a male in the game. I've only played male characters myself, so I wouldn't know, but when I asked her if male characters in the game had a harder time, she said they definetly do. She also wrote that all her female friends in the game mainly play female characters and that her macho male friends in the game played male characters, but usually had a "trophy female char". When I asked what that meant, she said she meant that they all had one female character that they would sometimes play.

Not a very good or elaborate study, but some potential insights there still

That's interesting. I would never have guessed that the average age was so high either so I'm a little curious about the accuracy of the study. I wonder who the sample group being polled were?
