They of course aren't as intrusive, but when I've tried to keep up with all collected logs in various games, I've felt like they disrupted the flow of the game pretty badly. The only ones that are intrusive are audio logs of the kind that activate themselves when picked up. If the game lets you listen when you feel like it, that's a lot better. Either way, I can't name a game where I'd actually want to read/listen to all that material.

Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door

I played this game when I was a kid and it has held up well. This is another one of those games that has the perfect blend of very simple combat, and excellent presentation. Some of the settings and premises for the chapters are epic. One of the chapters involves you battling in a tournament held in a city in the sky, another one revolves around a bizarre, 3-day train ride. I'm not a fan of JRPGs because a lot of the notable ones are swords, shields, and magic kind of stuff, and I really hate that aesthetic. This one is totally different.

That's definitely a good one. I really haven't given the Mario RPGs much of a chance since then, but I have played snippets of the 3/DS Mario & Luigi series and one or two for the Wii.

I preferred the portable iterations, but never got deep enough to form a good opinion on them.

Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice

I've spent the last 30 minutes trying to figure out how to write about this game, but I really can't. It's a harrowing look at mental illness, loss, grief, and love, while still being about a young woman traveling through the viking underworld to try and free the soul of her dead lover. A LOT of work has gone into trying to create a respectful and accurate depiction of psychosis, as your character, Senua, is constantly assailed by voices and changes in perception in the environment around her. Saying much more would give too much away, and really, it's hard to describe. It's a little bit walking simulator, action/adventure, and puzzle game. Combat is fairly basic, but functional, and the lack of HUD really keeps you immersed in the game's narrative. My only real criticism is the cutscenes can draw on a little too long and be a little too frequent, and the puzzles fall into that annoying niche where they're not hard enough to stump you on what to do, but just how to do it.

If you have a PC or a PS4 and you are looking for something new to play that will stay with you, I would highly recommend this game. That being said, there is a mechanic in the game wherein if you die too many times, this infection will set in and fully kill your character and delete your save, forcing you to start over from the beginning, so if you suck at games, I'd recommend playing the game on easy.

I've just started playing Hell Night/Dark Messiah for the PS1 on an emulator and while I get some sound, there's still a lot that I'm not hearing. Like voice acting, music, general sounds you'd expect to hear from the environment. The cut scenes had sound, even though no voice acting (but it's PS1 so that's not a shock), but now that I'm actually playing the game it's dead quiet. As in completely noiseless. But I've been Googling the issue and nobody seems to have any problems with the game and a review I checked even pointed out just how sparse the sound was.

So, like, to anyone who's ever played Hell Night, is this just a game with hella weird sound design or is my sound just ****ing up? I'm honestly kinda going with the former, but Jesus Christ it's weird playing a game this quiet.

Got the urge to play Pokemon. I dug up my old copy of FireRed and I've been playing that.

It's annoying how much of the gameplay revolves around pure chance, but this game is still enjoyable regardless.

I owned it many years ago but don't remember how the sound was. I just seem to remember it being very dark and murky and that I quickly got stuck and gave up. There were a lot of obscure survival horror type games on PS1. Chaos Break was another one I remember having. It sucked.

Same but I decided to jump back into Moon. I never made it off the first island. That's how little of it I played. Still trying to figure out what team I want to use.

Yeah the sound was just ****ed. I'm gonna have to get it working, cause the premise sounds like Alien: Isolation for the PS1. Too bad the monster looks terrible.

That moment when the Pokemon you added into your team shortly before the last gym is barely able to fend off wild Pokemon on Victory Road.
