My dad and I used to play A&A: Pacific all the time. It's pretty cool. Winning as the Japanese is tough. A&A also made a game called War at Sea, where you collect miniatures of battleships, destroyers, torpedo bombers, etc. and build your own fleet. It wasn't a very good game, but I liked the collectable aspect.

People play DnD over skype now. You can find a lot of gaming communities that play all sorts of games with it, some of them even stream their games live on Twitch.tv

There's a website called roll20.net which I guess is a handy tool for people wishing to play online through skype (etc). I haven't tried it myself yet, but I checked it out a while ago and what its main feature is giving you a virtual tabletop for miniature games like D&D.

I believe it also contains a community where one could find ongoing games etc.

Just watched a stream of this game on a twitch.tv, thinking about grabbing it for vacation this summer.

Geek and Sundry is a group of people who stream a variety of geeky things, I watch them on twitch sometimes when they are playing table top games. It's the same place I found ^Boss Monster.

I most recently watched them play Forbidden Desert, which is an alternative scenario to Forbidden Island. Co-op strategy game. Lots of fun.

I used to play AD&D with my brother and his mates. It was usually good fun, but as others have pointed out, the level of enjoyment is reliant on the quality of the GM. Get a good GM and it's ace.
