Ok guys, it's ya boi, the infamous DoctorSoft. I haven't been contributing too much to the music sections in these past 6 months or so, mainly because I find it hard to write about how music makes me feel. So I'm gonna be doing a little Journal type thing, hopefully I can get some discussion going about music I think is cool, you guys can reccemend me some stuff, whatever. I'm probably gonna mainly do album reviews, but maybe I'll have some music related stories or some articles, I don't really know.

Entry #1 - A Review of Built to Spill - Perfect From Now On



Built to Spill was a band that I had heard a few select songs from and always thought of as quite good, but they always struck me as a band that wouldn't be able to keep it together for a whole album. I loved songs like "Car" and "Stab" for their well written, almost poppy catchiness mixed with their interesting guitar playing that typically built in intensity as the song progressed. When I first downloaded this album I was a little dissapointed that none of the songs I had heard by the band were on it, but nevertheless I listened to it and am currently very glad I did.

At first the only songs that really stuck out to me were 'I would hurt a fly" and the last track "Untrustable Part 2". I found most of the other tracks to be a little meandering, with very few memorable moments. But on subsequent listens the rest of the songs grew on me. I began really enjoying the album, from the off time yet still catchy beat to "Randy Described Eternity" to the melodic and hooky 'Out of sight". There really isn't a song on here that I can't find something to love, usually in the unusually catch melodies produced by the guitar playing and the singer's voice, which some people might find off putting, but I find it suits the music very well.

OVERALL:

Entry #2 - A Review of Raekwon - Only Built 4 Cuban Lynx...



Only Built 4 Cuban Lynx is an album on that I bought on CD without really hearing anything from, other than the song "Ice Cream"(which I loved). I knew it was considered to be a classic in the Wu Tang discography, but I expected it to be slightly less dope than 36 Chambers, which is currently the only other Wu Tang affiliated album I have heard. (although if anyone has a good link for GZA - Liquid Swords, I shall rectify that situation.

Anyways, on to the album. Like 36 Chambers, RZA handles the production, and you can tell that in the two years between the albums respective release dates, he's been slaving away, honing his craft. 36 Chambers is known for it's rugged and gritty beats, this album features a slicker and at times a more soul-influenced sound. And in my opinion, it's all the better for it, I love 36 Chambers, but this is one of the best hip hop albums I've ever heard.

Most of the lyrical content on this bad boy deals with the trials and tribulations of being a cocaine kingpin mafioso in 1990's New York. I never was particularily impressed with with Raekwon's verses on 36 Chambers, but here he spits some fantastic ****. Ghostface is no slouch either, his verse on "Knuckleheadz" being one of the best on the album.

Overall, I think this album is essential to any Hip Hop fan, it has an interesting mix of 'rugged" sounding beats and more soulful, relaxed stuff.

This is a nice little slice of Trance right here. My friend reccemended me this music site that has a lot of electronica, chillwave type stuff. I visited the site and scrolled down a few pages until I found this. I played the title track and thought it sounded very pretty and mellow, which was exactly what I was in the mood for. I downloaded the EP and gave her a few spins. It's pretty damn good, not great but very nice if you're in the mood for some mellow, trance type stuff.
