Default John Lennon

I know he sings it, and the refrain is something to the effect of "I live in a material world"

Heard it on "breakfast with the beatles" this morning. Anyone?

Default Definately Don Mclean

Yup, i remember from music lessons at school! Ha Ha

He sang that song as a tribute for Buddy Holly, who died in a plane crash.

Could be called 'the day the music died' - one or the other....

You are correct. And it appears on his 1973 album of the same name.
