Default Help with a disco era song!

So way back in the day, when I was a kid.... there was this disco song that I've always heard, even these days occasionally. Every time I hear it, which is fairly scarce these days, they never say who it is and when you try to look it up on line, such as playlists from that station, it's a dead end. Honestly, if I had a smart phone or the mic worked on my computer, I'd try one of the many song recognition web sites, but this isn't an option for me, and it's driving me crazy!!!

So here's what I do know..........

It starts out with a rather subdued ringing of notes, as in bells ringing, much like a door bell. The succession of 4 notes starts out at a modest pace then the next 4 notes repeat but in half the time. I don't know any other way to put the notes so here we go....

.................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .....
.Ding............... ..ding.............. ...ding........ding. .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... ...................
............ding.... .................... ............ding.... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... ...........
.................... ................ding .................... ......ding.......... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... ...........
.................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .....
.................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .................... .....

The song has singers harmonizing throughout the song, occasionally doing the following chorus.....

.................... .................... ............ .................... ...........
.................... .................... .................... .................... .................
.................... ..................... EWWW!!!............. .................
.................... .................... .................... .................... ..................
.................... .................. .................... .................... ...............
.................... ......EW............ .................... .................... ..............
.................... ............EW........ .................... .................... .................
...................E W................... .................... .................... ...............
.................... .................... .................... .................... .................
.............EW..... .................... .................... .................... ...............

mid point the song breaks into a guitar riff that goes very quickly and with reverb....... .deet deettle lee deet, deet dettle lee deet, deet deettle lee deet....... then drops an octave, then does it again........ then drops another octave and does it again and so on for several successions

If anyone could please help me get in touch with my youth, so it doesn't feel like I'm just dreaming this song, I'd so much appreciate that!

again, my guess is not a complete match for your description, but the intro melody (your ding dings) somehow reminded me of the melody from a great song from dragon ball that I heard as a child, by japanese band Field of view

I was so hopeful, but it wasn't it. I'll keep plugging away on this. Thank you for the input though!

perhaps you could record the melody with online piano and share the file on the forum. Have a link Recordable Virtual Piano - Flash | ActiveDen

There's no way it would be this easy, but is it The Hustle?

Excellent selection! I'm all too familiar with Van McCoy, and while I absolutely love that song, that is not it, but thank you so much nonetheless!

A long shot but the only one I can think of with bells in the beginning.

Excellent song but that's not it either. The bell notes to the song I'm looking for I'm almost certain are done on a synth, despite the fact that the notes sound crystal clear (in my head anyways lol) I say this because they really are like small bells, having an even higher pitch, and more subdued than in the Chic song. There is the possibility that this is not a disco song as I had thought, but could be pop or funk. I'm 48 years old so my recollection of the 1970s is pretty grainy.

So, the keyboard is really limited as to the range and, admittedly, I suck at having a musical ear, but I just can't get a high enough note to replicate the very high pitched bell notes I speak of. I really do appreciate everyone's input. I'm still trying to unearth more info from my brain!
