Thumbs down Help with an arrangement

Hey!
I must admit that it is my first time using this forum and that I would not have resorted to this if I didn't need to...

So here's the deal: There is an annual music competition between classes at our school. Becase we did well last year everyone who wasnt involved in all the hard work is expecting something great. So we were aiming ant something great and now were stuck.

The theme of the competition is music yesterday and today(yesterday meaning everything before our birth). I wont go into the full details of our idea, but here is thw problem: we want to have a part where some of us are singing an "old" choir piece and the others sing modern songs over it. The idea came when one of us was fiddling with a looper and the I V vi VI progression, playin fur elise, the theme of the swan lake and a bunch of modern song over each other. It sounded pretty good and now here we are asking if anyone knows an easy choir piece or just a melody that could fit in our idea. Any ideas? (remember also that we are a class not a choir)

Top of my head, not being a musician, Handle's Hallelujah Chorus over Cohen's Halleujah? I'm sure you'll get better suggestions from the people here who are musicians.
