Yeah but not the tastes of people on here in general. I'm not bothered about those in the mainstream. I have known they have had no music tastes for years!

Of course not.

And thank God, or it would mean these boards were populated by the endless droids that listen to the dross that passes for music that saturate the charts.
cody's comment was, I think, directed at the seemingly majority of people that enjoy bubble gum for the ears.

I don't understand all the hype surrounding the white stripes. I understand they mixed blues and other forms of root music with rock (now thats original) and made it catchy but so what? It seems like with every new stripes album critics jump all over them and go on about it being the greatest rock record of the year and the greatest album of their career. From the NME to SPIN to every amazon review/forum it seems like everyone loved this record and thought it was so great and blah blah blah. To me it just sounded like a standard White Stripes album. They mixed hard rock blues, country and other things, not too adventurous or original.. I don't hate this or love this, like every other Stripes album I'm pretty indifferent towards it, but all the people who hype them death bug me because they're really not all that.

I've expressed my views on this album before, but to expand on the current discussion: I think the best that can be said of this album is that it's very competent. I can listen to it as a whole and enjoy it, in spite of the lack of sonic cohesion. But a masterpiece it is not. And I do find it, to say the least, weird, that any reviewer could have taken it as such.

With that said, to be fair, the overwhelming response seemed to be that it was a sorta 4 star deal. Though personally I think 3.5 is more accurate.
