Now you say it yeah, it has that same jerky feel to it. I love Jack's vocals on it.

I wasn't meant for it to be insulting, I mean most artists don't do original music and just copy other artists I think Jack White does it much better than most but still I get kind of tired of hearing him rehash other people, even if it is an improvement upon them.
I've never heard a Raconteurs/White Stripes song that doesn't sound like another band. I'd say he most frequently borrows from Led Zeppelin, Billy Childish and on this album it seems like he's just going the big classic rock sound thing.

Pretty unremarkable record, sadly. I thought it showed so much promise upon the initial listen, but most of the tracks failed to grow on me and the overwhelming feeling is that White hasn't brought along any particularly new ideas since Icky Thump. In fact, much of the record I could describe as sounding like Icky-gone-wrong.
Now, I don't mind playing around with the ideas of other bands and coming up with something fresh and of your own in the process, but much of this just gives the impression that White is, above all, being derivative of himself. I mean, just how much does "You Don't Understand Me" reminisce of "A Martyr For My Love For You"? I wanted to give this so much more but instead I'm left with the bitter taste of disappointment. Average. |
