I've listened to this album a few times and I like it, a lot. However, it's nowhere near as explosive, essential and immediate as Bitte Orca was, there are some great songs on here but the consistency on Orca was more obvious. Plus, Orca seemed much more thought out, where as Swing Lo Magellan seems a bit improvised and glitchier at times. Lots of this album blows me away, I don't like it as much as Orca, but it is still a great follow-up. This is a bit emptier too, I enjoy the simplicity of songs like 'Dance For You' and 'The Socialites', the latter being my favorite song on the album. 'Just From Chevron' is quite pretty too, 'Gun Has No Trigger' is a tune and the first two songs are the ones that remind me of DP's earlier stuff the most. It is a categorizable album, but it is still very interesting. I am very happy with it. I miss Angel though.

This is a huge disappointment for me, especially since Bitte Orca was so brilliant. It just doesn't have the same edge, it's very bland in comparison. Bitte Orca had beautifully odd moments and soaring guitar solos; this has a steady, sterile feeling to it. I usually hate it when bands try to simplify their sound (a la The Suburbs) and this is no different.

The Socialites is probably my favorite track.
