I certainly have. Just never got around to buying it as it DEMANDS to be in my collection. Great post though. An absolute classic.

Oh yeah I know there must be fans, just amazes me it's not come up on here before (to my knowledge). Gonna get a decent quality rip up for people to PM for.

Definitely; I literally don't think I'd be the same person without my £5 copy of Nuggets purchased from the now defunct Fopp music chain. Take that how you like...

I'd recommend seeking out the Nuggets II box set, it's a quick fix, you just hotwire it to your lugholes and get down to business.

As far as Elektra goes: Love, the Stooges. And the rest. Were Jefferson Airplane with them...?

Thats where I bought my copy from! God Bless Fopp and the way they stack their shelves, still maintain an element of independence too despite the troubles.

Yeah got my hands on the second Installment, once you've got that far in, you might as well go for the Pebbles and Rubble boxsets too.

Never got around to the Nuggets spin-offs but I just earmarked a cut-price Pebbles box set on amazon that looks pretty tasty. That's the thing about this music - it's like Northern soul, the original artist doesn't matter a jot it's just good pop songs... I know some people that play this stuff out at 60's nights and the punters love it!

You're right about Fopp, they deserve their own thread for the Brits really, they basically changed the face of high-street music shopping forever. I still remember buying sh*te albums for 15 quid in Our Price. You Mancanoids are lucky to still have one!

edit: yeah the rip is on its way but we're talking hours, gonna stay up to see it through tho.

The only time I got anything cheap from Our Price is when it shut down and sold everything off.

Can I get a piece of this rip? It sounds good.

Thanks for the thoughtful review of the Airplane's After Bathing at Baxter's. The Jefferson Airplane is still my favorite band from the golden age of psychedelica. I might contribute some of my own reviews to the thread, but I want to get a better idea of where you're going with your reviews, so I don't scoop one of your reviews before you have a chance to post it. I have a file of old reviews of psychedelic era records, many of which have been published but I still own the user rights to them.

Among my favorite groups are the Airplane, Quicksilver, the Misunderstood, the Monks of Doom. the Yardbirds, Arthur Lee and Love, Moby Grape, Electric Prunes, Country Joe and the Fish, the Grateful Dead, the Doors, and Hendrix.

I've interviewed Roger McGuinn of the Byrds, Tom Rapp of Pearls Before Swine and Doug Yule of the Velvet Underground about their involvement in music of that era, over the years. McGuinn was particularly articulate about how he crafted the unique sound of the Byrds.
