Default The Official Cog Thread

I searched and couldn't believe there wasn't a thread for these guys yet??

For anyone that isn't aware of this awesome Aussie Prog. band then I suggest you check out some of the links here. Honestly check them out, they are amazing. (you might have to get used to the singing)

COG - Sharing Space
(The bands website)

('No Other Way' - the 1st Track off of their latest album Sharing Space)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FFWDVjMmPg
('The Spine' [Live] - the album version sounds cleaner, because this recording wasn't the best and youtube tends to suck but they're great live... drumming is great. From their first 'official' album The New Normal)

Hell yeah... I was going to make a thread but nobody ever reads my threads about overlooked bands from Australia/ New Zealand.

Anyway, Cog are amazing. They're definitely one of my favourite bands. I reviewed them once or twice in my Gig Reviews journal... they're just one of those bands that are a little bit different and somehow sound Australian, if that's possible.

Unfortunately though one of my friends is a roadie for Cog and apparently they're scheduled to call it quits sometime this year Very sad day for Australian music.

Kate recommended the band to me and they are damn good and deserved a bigger audience. For a 3 piece they certainly had a big sound.

No way... I didn't know that, I hope its only a rumour. That's horrible news. C'mon guys what are ya thinking?? If its just a hiatus then I can accept that. The Butterfly Effect and Karnivool are still going so that's good and with Sleep Parade and other Aussie bands taking note it softens the blow.

I have a feeling it's not a rumour, she's on pretty personal terms with Flynn. As soon as they cancelled their Melbourne shows due to Flynn's new child being born I think it all went downhill from there. You can hear it in basically every lyric he writes as well, how much it hurts him to not be with his family and stuff. Ultimately I think that's the reason behind it.

But yeah, they haven't announced it publicly yet so who knows what will happen. I mean, they have said stuff about taking a 'break' but let's hope it's not as permanent as it seems to be heading...

Hear, hear - on that note...

I'm gonna go and listen to Sharing Space again haha

...Tool take up to 5 years between recording. (I hope that Cog at least try and stay together, as hard as it would be on Flynn missing his family)

They handed out adverts for Cog playing New Years last night after Dream Theater... Let's not hope that's the last thing they do

This is what it says about that night...

"COG have re surfaced to play a one off special event showcase this NEW YEARS EVE at Space Nightclub on Liverpool St in the City!"

So chances are it's a one-off thing. I'd go if I lived in NSW but alas; I've already seen them twice anyway. It'll be well worth it for anyone who can go!

I haven't updated this thread in a while, sorry. After hearing that Cog would no longer exist I didn't think there would be any news I could muster...

Though now it seems that we don't have to worry any longer, as Cog are touring to support their very first DVD coming out on the 21st of May (with a Live CD as well). It's going to be called The Sound Of Three - 12 Years With You. I'm going to see them at The Metro Theater in June and can't wait. Glad to see these guys still kicking.

If you need any more info on the tour dates, or on the DVD/CD then please check out their website
