Moby meets Classic Horror (lyrics, soundtrack, electronic, alternative, blues)

I set Moby's "One of These Mornings" to the classic film "Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens (a Symphony of Horror)" (1922). I figured the Electronica forum would be the best place to share my experimental combination of these two classics given the audio track. Feedback is welcomed. If you have an account on Youtube I would really appreciate it if you took the time to rate the video. Thanks, all.

Type O Negative have done the same. I have it on DVD. I will check this out.

The film has a soundtrack by the goth metal band Type O Negative. It helps that I don't mind a lot of their music. It works quite well actually.

I personally don't think the track worked but it shows initative. Keep them coming.

That sounds familiar; I'm not positive but I may have seen a part of that on Stage6 before it closed down. At one point they had about 3 different versions on the site.

My favorite version (that I have since not been able to find) used different colors filters depending on the scene and the score was phenomenal and the most eerie I've ever heard or seen the film, especially compared to the American version on the site which was somewhat blurry (as you can see from my final video result) and the American score lacked the drama of the version I'm mentioning. The only bad thing was that it didn't have the translations of the German.

But back to my video, what kept the song "One of These Mornings" from working well with the video source, in your opinion? Upon first mixing the video and audio I was actually amazed how well they seemed to mesh. Your actually the first person who's said that the song flat-out does not have any compatibility with the film despite obvious connections between lyrics and film plot (as well as other ways I find them to blend well). Could your lack of relating to the video be because your apparent taste in goth metal as opposed to alternative/electronica/blues? What other reasons might you think other people find them to not be complementary to one another?

No I listen to absolutely everything musically and I know Moby's music. I think that lyrically it worked and although the tempo of the song fitted, I felt that it was still too upbeat and not in keeping with the films oppressive nature. I am a huge film fan too and I am really into how music affects a scene. I don't think it was awful. It could just be the fact that I am used to the Type O Negative version.

Check out Der Golem with the soundtrack by Tangerine Dream, one of my favourite bands and are one of the forerunners in Electronica.

I know what you mean about it contrasting with the original mood of the film and, in a very deliberate way, I meant for it too. In a way, I am desensitized to both source materials that I use for the video since I have loved them separately for so long. The way the video affects me is that it brings a new magic to both things and I feel the energy feed off of one another by introducing a new way to look at both. I feel the video introduces sympathy to Count Orlok, a feature that seemed to be noticeably absent in the original film. Likewise, Moby's song means more to me (in my desensitized state) when it is ripped out of the apparent context of lovers leaving one another and instead put into parallel with the strange events taking place in Nosferatu (when no parallels seem to be self-evident at first).

Thanks for the Electronica suggestion. I don't normally listen to much, but I'll be checking it out.
