Favourite bands in the punk genre are Husker Du, Minutemen, Big Black, nomeansno and Man Sized Action.
Shame it's relatively dead today although I hear there's a pretty active community in eastern europe.
On the contrary the scene is still pretty huge. Maybe not so much traditional punk, but pop punk (actual pop punk), post-hardcore (actual post-hardcore), skate punk, post-punk, and ska punk are still huge genres. Garage Punk is the most popular form of the moment.

Hey guys. Pop punk: do you think that it can be really considered a part of Punk, or not?

It most certainly is.

If that isn't punk I don't know what is.

Even more commercial stuff is still definitely at least a part of punk. Of course, there's certainly a line. New Found Glory/All Time Low/etc. is pretty ****in borderline.

And then...

Yeah maybe not.

I'll check that dictionary, but in the meantime I'm impressed - as is everyone else in the world - by your eloquence, obvious accomplishments and success, and the evidence of your blazingly high intelligence.

Pop punk is just punk rock with more pop musical elements added in.

Pop songs+punk=pop punk.

Sex Pistols and The Clash's music sounded much different than your Ramones, your Buzzcocks, and your Rezillos. Take that what you will but from the very start of punk there were three main directions bands where taking and those were the pop direction of Ramones, the arty direction of Wire, and the visceral direction of Sex Pistols. There's some breathing room but for the most part all the bands followed this generally.

Punk is the bands that rejected the mainstream and commercial sounds of the time by playing stripped down, fast paced, and socially conscious music.

Pop punk is similar but they embrace the sounds of pop music.
