I have Warsaw, Closer, Unknown Pleasures and the rest, they weren't "punk" IMHO. Well, maybe back then, as there wasn't really a proper category to put them in?

I disagree that Goth music "sucks". Lots of great bands, not everyone ripped off JD. Bauhaus, the Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Lords of the new church, March Violets, etc are all great too. Its the stuff past 92-ish that "sucked".

By the way: She's lost Control is a fantastic JD jam too.

I agree that goth music per se does not suck. The Cure is the only band that needs to be mentioned as far as proof goes.

I always considered the Cure a pop band. Besides, I don't find them interesting at all.

Goth music is any music associated with the subculture. There is no stipulation that it cannot include pop. The only essential thing is that the music reflects the mood and outlook of the movement.

The Cure are well known as goths:

You say you don't find them "interesting" at all - have you listened to their major albums? I don't see how they could be considered any less interesting particularly than a band like The Smiths.

For all the more poppy moments the Cure have had (like the singles) they've had darker moments. Just look at Pornography and Seventeen Seconds.

Have you heard Disintegration? Ethan got me into the Cure through that album.

I don't find the Smiths very interesting either. I have heard Pornography once at a friends house and their self titled when my brother liked them.

Yeah, Disintegration is great. I'd say it's their best, but then again I've only heard 3 of their studio albums.

Oh, my bad. I had gathered that you were some gigantic Smiths/Morrissey fan from positive comments I'm sure I've seen posted by you around the boards.
