Default Punks who hate on Straight edge

Recently I was doing sound at a Punk/Hardcore/Metal gig when a hard core band came on, they got hasseled pretty bad from some punks in the crowd... when asking around for the inside gossip I was in formed they were being heckled cos they were all straight edgers in the band..... is it not a part of punk philosophy to stand up for individualism? are they not just having the exact attitude that punk is against?

I thought it was a given that anyone trying to come across as 'punk' are often just as close minded as anyone else, no matter how they want to come across.

Individualism; principal of living one's life in one's own way..

But youre not living your own way, if youre part of a subculture.

Of course you can be. You'll get people that want to jump on the bandwagon but that doesn't mean people who strongly believe in the same causes should be lumped into the same category and given abuse for it.

Its still your choice to like the things that make you a part of a sub culture, sure its highly influential but you still make your own choices even if they are similar to others.

When I was a young metalhead (half a lifetime away) a load of punks gave my friends and I plenty of verbal abuse which was crushing as I thought they would appreciate people off the mainstream. It is a sad fact of life that some people will always try to find something to gripe upon. Damn shame. Smacks of elitism really.

Of course it's elitism, but isn't being Straight Edge also?
Sounds like a case of the cat calling the kettle black to me.
It's all bullshit anyway.
