in a sense the type of music the genre can change. look at led Zeppelin.. they were Heavy Metal of the 70's and now considered to be Rock N' Roll, classic rock. well i'm sorry but as much as you think genres can't and don't change its very possible. and it has changed in this case to. Black Flag were punk of there day.. and clearly now considered to be hardcore. I stick to my opinions and no i'm not going to admit i'm wrong when i know i'm not.. so battle it out go ahead.. you'll be just making me copy this very post over and over.. haha

Black Flag was a hardcore punk band. I never thought that that fact was even disputed. Lyrically, vocally, instrumentally, they were a hardcore band. Because you say they were "tru punx" doesn't mean you're right. And no, their genre didn't change over time, they were a hardcore band in the 80s, and they're a hardcore band today. It hasn't changed. Plus, who are you to tell us about whats punk, you listen to 3 Days Grace. PWND.

Hardcore and punk are practically the same thing as hardcore grew out of punk music. Most of the early bands such as Bad Brains, Middle Class etc would have considered themselves to be playing punk as that's what they were doing at the time. So you, in theory are partly right.

Black Flag formed in 1976 when hardcore really wasn't a genre although bands were laying the foundation for what would later be called hardcore. Yes, I listen to alot of this early hardcore so I know what i'm talking about.

Alright, they formed before hardcore was an official genre. But is it an official genre? It is merely a sub genre of punk. The fact that they formed before the term was coined, doesn't mean they weren't a hardcore band.
