I have tried these and don't care for them. Most rap I like is pre 1990 with the exception of Necro, sorry fella's that's just what makes my pickle squirt. Public Enemy and the Beastie Boys were best pre-1990 as well

Sometime I like the lyrics and the vocal hooks. The beats and the other parts of the arrangement in recent hip-hop is what I really like though. Old rap/hip-hop had good lyrics and generally better use of different vocal ideas, but the music behind it was pretty ****ty cheese a lot of the time. Certainly not sexy-ass like it is nowadays
