hmm, i like the first part, and i think it takes nuts to say that, because most ppl will hate you for mentioning tupac and overrated in the same sentence. im not one of those people. i agree with you.

now, he part about biggie....not true. there are several cats that surpass him lyrically, its just hes dead and old school so he gets respected to perhaps what is an overgenerous amount.

MF DOOM by far is the most talented lyricist today,
though he is one of the least known artists.

It all comes down to what the white, 14-year-old suburban kids
think is good. Pretty soon, people will be comparing 3 6 Mafia to Immortal Tech. Its a pity.

The first list by Poloboy 23 is laughable at best.

what about Jeru the Damaja?
what about Hieroglyphics?
what about Guru?

doom and hiero are some of my faves.
i wouldnt consider jeru to be underrated, i think he garners a lot of respect in the hip hop community, at least to my experience. same with guru, perhaps even more.

I'll agree with you on some points, but I do have some problems with this list.

Illmatic is far from underrated. Ask any emcee what albums influenced them, and Illmatic will be on the list.

KRS-One, also not really underrated. He's basically the spokesperson for the old school, and highly regarded as a legend.

Grand Master Flash? No way. Any hip hop head that doesn't know "The Message" is blind to the facts.

Rakim is not underrated. He won the title of best lyricist of all time in "The Source," and in my book beats out Nas any day of the week.

I'd have to say that "The Tipping Point" is The Roots' worst album. Try "Things Fall Apart," "Illadelph Halflife," or "Game Theory" for some true fire.

I'll agree with you to an extent on the rest of them (undoubtedly Mos, Kweli, Kurtis Blow, and Black Thought).

Some other very slept on emcees: The GZA, Jean Grae, Common, Pharoahe Monch, and Styles P.
