Default the rub's history of hip hop

dunno if this forum is aware of this or not. but to me this is a good source for exploring hip hop's history. it's a playlist that was compiled a few years ago. it gives you hip hop music by the year. goes from 1979-2009. i really like the 90's lists. the 2000's look pretty lackluster. but i'm assuming the 1980's lists are pretty decent samples from those years if you enjoy that type of music.i don't really like 80's rap as much if i am being honest so it's hard for me to comment

here to post an update

basically what i envisioned for this idea, which i had mentioned to vwls, is that it'd be good to have a video version of these playlists... just something a bit more engaging i think, to help people explore hip hop history through listening and watching

the way i utilized these playlists initially was to just download them as mp3's and listen to them at work or when doing something active.. seriously, there's a lot of good **** in there, particularly in the early-mid 90's lists. each year downloads as a single massive audio file which just plays back to back hip hop from that year for an hour or two

but i started getting curious about some of the songs i would find in the playlist that i'd never heard, and i'd go to the website to look up what song it is, then go on youtube and watch the video

then i started saving the videos... and i got the idea to make a sort of repository for hip hop history in music video form. so i started the process of going through the playlists of my favorite years and watching the video, then downloading the video and saving it to a folder for that year. the only thing is... some of these songs are obscure. some don't have videos. some, the only available videos are either fan made or censored. i figure it's better to watch a fan made video than nothing.. so i decided i'll take fan made videos if that's all that's available.

i hate listening to censored rap, so if the video is censored, then i basically redub it with uncensored audio if available. but then there's still some songs with no video whatsoever. maybe you watch this and see a song without a video that you want to have a video, find some video footage you think would go with the song and post it? i can sync it if nobody else can. i'd like to request help from anyone who is willing or able, though. not just with syncing or finding videos for songs without videos, but with this entire process. if you feel like you can help in any way, let me know.

cause honestly, i enjoy looking up these old hip hop songs and trying to get the videos... but at the rate i'm going it will take me forever to do this **** myself. i can only do this here and there when i have the free time. but i think this would be a good resource to have.. you have the education thread... here you can have another thread where you can actually go year by year and explore hip hop from the past.

i've only finished working on one year, myself. i've downloaded some videos for the years 91-96... but the only year i have completed is 1994. here is what a rough draft of 1994 would look like

note: there are still songs with no video in this compilation. ideally we'd find a video for each song, but if not, then maybe just the audio is better than nothing, or maybe the board will decide they would rather just remove those songs from the list. there were too many great songs without videos for me to remove them myself, but i'd like to hear other people's opinions.

ideally we could cover hip hop's entire history, from 79-current, but i started with the 90's cause that's the music i like tbh. i feel like if this is to work it'll have to be a group effort. but just the 90's alone is a massive list of songs/videos. any other 90's fans who want to contribute are encouraged to do so. if there are any 80's fans here who want to take on the 80's videos... that'd be great as well.

i figure most posters here won't like the 2000+ lists too much... a lot of mainstream club music in there. if it suits MB better then modify/add to those lists to include underground music you want included.. the general idea is just to have a chronological repository of compilation videos, representing each year of hip hop

Video is already blocked Didn't even get to check it out.

I'll have to hop on skype and see what I can do to help ya with this, because I think it's a great idea. I just don't have a lot of time, and when school starts in September I won't have any time at all, so it's probably gonna be a long process.

i had a feeling the video would get blocked... i made it unlisted and made the title vague,, didn't tag it with anything and they still found it and blocked it... might have to find an alternative to hosting it on youtube

Here's something that isn't blocked. I just hope that Kim Jong-un don't come after me for this, and try to hack my comp, and ****

anyone who has any ideas on an alternative to youtube for hosting large videos... this one was 4.1 gb or something like that... let me know

i'm not finding anything online... most free sites have a cap that is too low for my purposes

so right now my solution is i'm re-uploading that video to a new youtube account which i created just for this. when it's uploaded i'll post the video and share the credentials. because you can watch videos "you" uploaded, even if they are blocked. but this is obviously not the ideal solution... but it's all i can come up with atm. so anyone with a better way to do it, your advice would be appreciated.

Idk anything about that stuff.. You should ask this question in the tech help thread or something since not many people come round these parts.. I mean this is an awesome idea/website and no one even responded

alright here is the video for 1994 again

since i am sure it will be blocked, the username for the youtube account is mbhiphopfan@gmail.com, pw is musicbanter.

i've already noticed some flaws with this video that need addressing... so suffice it to say if this becomes a thing, then this wont be the final copy. but if few people are interested in this sort of thing, then i probably won't bother trying to follow through with making all this video footage available to everyone, since the copyright laws are presenting such an obstacle as it is. but if there is sufficient demand then i will do my best to deliver, my friends. you just need to let me know if that is the case

if not i'll probably just keep downloading and compiling the videos for myself and share it with vwls or any other specific user that might be interested... since the main hurdle so far seems to be hosting all this content publicly
