Another great one to try is Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars...

There have been some brilliant fusions of European popular music and African rythms...

Paul Simon's Graceland album (to me) was a prime exaple of this...he built most of it around Ladysmith Black Mambazo and a bunch of stuff my Ray Phirri and Stimela.
