Now there I would agree. They were more bombastic and actually KNOWING of what they were aiming for. If we judge Maiden solely on Bruce ****insons arrival, then I agree that the power metal tag is virtually a given BUT their first two albums are a different kettle of fish. Di'anno was virtually a Punk vocalist. The production is raw and the whole feel of the album feels less classically defined as an atypical Metal sound. Themes were definitely emerging from Harris's songwriting, but these two albums alone lead me to my opinion of Maidens non power status lol.

Haha, and that's why Urban only likes their first two albums. But I agree on Di'Anno being a more punk styled vocalist. I like him, just not as much as Bruce.

Maiden (for better or worse) made me who I am today. The first band I actively got into. Bless them.

I don't actually mind the first few Dickinson albums. It's just from Powerslave onwards they seemed to get more & more polished & lose that edge that appealed to me.

Why do people like Dragonforce so much? I saw them at Ozzfest and they were so LAME. I had never even heard of them before that... With the leather pants and the keytar, I thought they were some sort of joke band like Spinal Tap. It seems like every thread on this board mentions them at some point.

Am I missing something here?

Well if you hate Dragonforce it obviously isn't taste you're missing.

Speaking of Bruce, his solo albums are pretty good. His last album Tyranny of Souls is great.

We were discussing their merits as influencing the power metal genre, not actually being power metal. Read the thread properly.
