Default Mahavishnu Orchestra

I just got all four of thier good albums with thier original line-up thanks to my friend. Man, you just don't hear music like that anymore. John McLaughlin, as Frank Zappa so elegantly put it, "Plays like a ****ing machinegun" and Jerry Goodman tears up on that violin. I consider them Rock really, not much jazz as they are usually billed. Billy Cobham a monster, any Mahavishnu Orchestra fans out there? If not, then definetly check out

Inner Mounting Flame
Birds of Fire
Between Nothingness and Eternity
Lost Triden Sessions

And just see if you can listen to **** like System of a Down or White Stripes after that.

They were marvelous. Apparently they are prog, but regardless, their unique fusion sound makes them worth checking out.

Mahavishnu is just awesome music. John Mclaughlin was the first shred player.

Yeah, Mahavishnu's a great band, probably the best non-Miles fusion group, in my opinion (interestingly enough, almost all notable fusion groups had ex-Miles Davis sidemen as leaders). I'm not a huge fusion fan (outside of Miles' stuff, Bitches Brew is my favorite album), but early Mahavishnu Orchestra is some fine stuff indeed. I've only got Inner Mounting Flame, I'll get Birds of Fire one of these days. McLaughlin's one of my favorite guitarists.

And I also, despite listening to mostly jazz these days, still listen to **** like the White Stripes (not too big of a fan of **** like System of a Down, but everyone's got a right to listen to whatever **** they want ).

Take a leaf out of Beethovens book and roll a spliff with it.
